The Basin Primary School, The Basin

Project: Renovation, extension and refurbishment of existing administration and classroom areas plus construction of a new gymnasium and significant car park.
Completed: July 2018
Architect: K20 Architects

DELIVERED SIX WEEKS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

May Constructions conducted extensive upgrades and refurbishments to two existing classroom buildings. These works were conducted whilst areas of the buildings were still being used. So as to minimise the impact on the School and the Students, large scale works were conducted in School Holiday periods and on weekends. The school carpark was also resurfaced during the holidays.
Concurrent to the refurbishment works, a new Administration building was constructed. The building was an extension to the original classroom, dating back to the school’s inception in 1879. The classroom was modernised and an aditional 400m2 of floor-space was added to the building to cater for the School’s administration requirements.
The new competition grade gymnasium is the jewel in the crown of the School upgrade. This $3 million facility will be enjoyed by the local sporting community as well as the staff and students. A large glass bi fold door in the gymnasium opens out onto a newly formed grass amphitheater. This combined with expansive storage rooms, tiered stadium seating, a commercial grade canteen and adjacent multi-purpose rooms; the facility will surely be the envy of all school’s in the surrounding area.

From the outset, the May Constructions team communicated effectively, not just at the fortnightly Site Meetings, but whenever we needed assistance or had an inquiry. They established and maintained good working relationships with our key stakeholders. The Site Supervisors had the ability to anticipate issues and promptly inform relevant parties of matters of concern. Their communication was outstanding, with appropriate notification given to myself about stages of the build, deliveries, pouring of concrete, truck movements, interruptions to power and other services. They used quality trades that were polite, professional and with a high attention to detail. The May Constructions team were friendly, cooperative and at all times considered the impacts the build had on the staff and students.
I couldn’t speak more highly of May Constructions, they have our highest recommendation.
